Fashion Show

Image
The fashion show was something I have never done before. It forced me to tap into my creative side I never have the opportunity to in college. Most of my work is science based and this was the one project that made me really tap into my "fine" art and creative art making.  My group decided to do a take on Ruby. One of the costumes was all purple to represent Prince, one was to represent his cheetah costume, and one was to represent his cheetah costume. I was given the cheetah costume to create a look made from upcycled/recycled looks.  To start I began asking my friends if they had any cheetah to which most said no. Except for my one friend who's halloween costume just happened to have a large cheetah hat, fur cheetah belt, and cheetah body suit. I then built around those two pieces, but struggled to think of ways to use recycled materials. Eventually I decided to use a clear poncho I found to make a jacket to go over the bodysuit. The collar was made out of shipping air...

Interstellar

Interstellar was by far my favorite film the entire semester. The fact the movie was scientifically accurate was scary but really brings to light the time-sensitve matter of climate change and what could happen if action is not taken soon. What I would be interested in is if the entire movie as a whole was just a dream or hallucination because the directors never make it clear. The wall of library and books is what separates Murphy from her dad when he leaves to try find a new planet. The one planet they visited that had water depicts what the earth could look like in a few years and the place where he came from represents how our earth could become scorched.  Making the short film was a fun and creative way to try imagine our future. Coming up with the skit and performing it while including all our majors was difficult at first but at the end of the day came together nicely. Although this wasn't my first video, acting out-project, this one presented new problems as we had to...

Fashion Designer

CHRISTIAN DIOR          Born in 1905 in France and passed in Italy in 1957. He was an iconic French designer who reintroduced femininity after the war. He turned focus to focus on luxury to women's fashion. After graduation, Dior opened a small art gallery that handled the works of Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. After the gallery closed, he made ends meet by selling his fashion sketches. However, some years later he had to serve as in officer in the French army when World War II started. When he returned he was hired by courturier Lucien Lelong. Lenlong's design house would dress the women of both Nazis and French collaborators. He then found the house of Christian Dior on December 16, 1946. Dior considers 1947 to be year of conception as that is when he showed his first collection. His collection was a "new look". The look consisted of calf-length, full skirt, cinched waist and fuller bust. In 1948 he established a luxury ready-to-wear house on the corner of...

Ready Player 1

While video games are not really my thing, Ready Player 1 really put them into a new perspective which was interesting. And the difference in how people are online versus in reality is slightly scary. Based on all the presentations, my groups included, it was clear people feel comfortable online therefore express themselves how they want to. Although sad reality and society stops people from expressing who they want to be because of stereotypes and stigmas, there is some relief that video games is an escape for people. It was interesting to see some people who were playing were males, but played as a female. The females especially in Destiny 2 were given power and were favored over the male characters which is major change considering video games are mostly for men. Overall, this assignment was very eye opening about severely stereotypes affect our society.

Ghost in Shell Notes

Ghost in the Shell was one of my least favorite films to watch thus far. While the animation for the time is incredible, anime just might not be for me. The storyline was relatively difficult to follow and I had a hard time staying engaged. This could just be one of those personal preference movies I have a preferance against. Also, writing the paper to relates Issac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics was challenging possibly because the storyline was difficult to follow. However, it is interesting to think about whether Asimov's laws can be applied to hybrids (part human, part robot).  Isaac Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics” 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws The Bicentennial Man https...

StarTrek

StarTrek once definitely one of my more favorite movies to watch, but I had no idea it had such an impact on the world today. Looking through a futuristic lens, there are so many futuristic technologies of the time and even today. Inspiration should continue to be taken from StarTrek not just in the nursing field, but all other disciplines as well. One thing however I did note was the apparent stereotypical role of women tried to break the mold. For Uhura, the mold exploded, but for the role of nurses and women in healthcare not so much. Women were given the role as nurses which are subservient to doctors. In today's world, while women can now also be doctors, it is still predominantly a male's role. In some of the more recent remakes or spinoffs of StarTrek we do begin to see an increase in appreciation for nurses and invaluable work they do alongside doctors. In one of the most recent, Strange New Worlds, I believe some referred to Nurse Chapel as doctor, which is the beginni...

The Matrix- Red Pill

Image
During the debate the main argument of the blue side was that ignorance is bliss and some people are unable to know the real truth. To counter this, taking the blue pill is simply taking the easy way out and being selfish. Yes, some people may mentally not be able to handle the high stakes and mental obstacles of being a nurse, or special agent, or in the case of the movie jumping between the matrix and the real world, but if all those people do not believe then the chance of finding someone who can possibly unveil the real truth about the world is greatly reduced and all will continue living in a world where the pure cause of fear and anxiety is the unknown. By taking the red pill, there are also different levels, different levels of involvement, not everyone will have to be in the middle gory part of it. Someone can contribute one way or another and in order to advance anywhere, the power in numbers to make a change is critical. During the pandemic, although nurses If only half of th...
